As a friendly gesture, India has decided to name Park Street in New Delhi after Bangladesh’s founder Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The New Delhi Municipal Council on Thursday approved its renaming a day before Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrives here on a four-day visit.
The NDMC came up with the decision showing a “friendly gesture”,Indian media reported.
“It has been decided to rename Park Street after the founder of Bangladesh – Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman – ahead of Sheikh Hasina’s visit. This is like a friendly gesture as India shares cordial relations with Bangladesh,” a senior municipal council official was quoted by Indian media as saying.
The decision was made through a circular motion as a council meeting could not be convened, according to The Hindu.
